Stablecoin meet-up in London?
Surveying interest for an IRL gathering to discuss the BoE's proposed stablecoin regime.
Stablecoins and bites
Dear Subscribers.
Those of you who were around in the early days of crypto will remember how dynamic the London scene was in terms of crypto-themed debates, panels, and meet-ups.
These weren’t the mega Token 2049 conferences we are familiar with now. They were small. Intimate. Dynamic. What they lacked in size, they made up for in quality of discussion, networking, and distribution. It wasn’t one mega merch-ridden pop concert-style experience. It was a series of small, distributed events, where the only common denominator was usually David Birch.
Nothing similar has yet emerged in the stablecoin space. At least not in London. (Or at least nothing I’ve been invited to!)
There are added pressures these days. Work-from-home has killed the hub dynamic, and there just aren’t as many people hopping around the City as there used to be.
With that in mind, I wanted to survey interest among my subscribers for an impromptu meet-up sometime in late November or early December.
The only issue is that we would be restricted on budget. And location.
What I’d like to propose, given the limitations, is an exclusive gathering to discuss the latest BoE regime, with all the top-notch and relevant guests I can lure over, at a friendly West London restaurant that would let us take over the whole joint.
You would have to schlep over on the Elizabeth Line, but the upside is that the friendly restaurant in question serves fantastic food, and could do us an all-inclusive deal that’s very palatable.
Of course, if anybody has any better ideas about venues that don’t come with fine dining, do let me know. But the current plan would be to ticket the event to cover the three-course meal while we have a high-brow chat about stablecoins.
The proposed venue caps out at 40, but the optimal size would be around 30-35. The dinner would be between £75 and £100 per head, depending on alcohol choices.
As a sweetener, those who aren’t already subscribers will receive a six-month free trial to The Peg.
Please express interest and preferences for dates on this Doodle poll here. And do pass on to anyone who you think might be interested.
